Black Cats Purrrfect Practice-Run for Diamond Jubilee Display Season

bc_1The Navy’s No.1 helicopter display team, the Black Cats, are ready to perform for the Diamond Jubilee air show season after the head of the Fleet Air Arm approved their display. The two Lynx – instantly recognisable thanks to the distinctive cat emblems painted on their fuselage – will perform at more than a dozen shows around the UK between the end of this month and mid October.

3rd MAW showcases helicopter firefighting capabilities

mil_12Third Marine Aircraft Wing Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., participated in a Wildland Firefighting Exercise at Camp Pendleton, Calif., May 10.

The exercise was presented in the form of a demonstration to local military and fire departments as to what 3rd MAW, military assets, and local fire departments bring to the fight. The focus was to demonstrate effective communication between the coordinating elements and immediate response.

Coast Guard medevacs man from merchant vessel off NC coast

logo_uscgThe Coast Guard medevaced a 23-year-old man off a merchant vessel approximately 30 miles east of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Monday.

An agent for the merchant vessel, Norfolk Express, called watchstanders at the Coast Guard 5th District at approximately 1 p.m. requesting a medevac for a male crewmember who was in need of assistance.
