African Delegation Visits HAI

On Wed., July 18, an African delegation ended their two week Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) to the U.S. with a visit to HAI. Organized by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, the RTM had the objective of gathering data on light aircraft, civilian helicopters, and associated financing options available in the U.S.

The ten person delegation, representing five African countries, talked with HAI's Matt Zuccaro and Dave York about safety and regulatory challenges facing helicopter operators. Sikorsky's Dave Carroll was also present and gave a presentation on the company's S-300C light helicopter.

In the afternoon, the delegation took an HAI-sponsored field trip to meet with Fairfax County Police Department's (FCPD) Chief Pilot and HAI board member, Paul Schaaf. Schaaf discussed how his unit utilizes helicopters to serve the community in a multitude of missions - and also took the time to show off one of FCPD's Bell 429 helicopters.
